Catholic Bible Life Movement (CBLM)
Catholic Bible Life Movement' proclaims the Good News to the world through faith, prayer, and the practice of God’s Word in Jesus Christ. In February 1971, the nuns of the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help began studying the Bible. The following year, in 1972, a group of college students joined in Bible study sessions at the Congregation, leading to the CBLM’s establishment.
On February 1, 1973, the program was officially approved as a university student initiative within the Archdiocese of Seoul by the late Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan, allowing it to grow within the Church. Initially established for university students under the name ‘Catholic University Student Bible Study Group’ in 1973, it was renamed the ‘Catholic Bible Life Movement(CBLM)’ in March 1974 as participation expanded to include the general public and working professionals.
In 2022, as we commemorated the 50th anniversary Jubilee, we offered gratitude and praise to God for guiding the CBLM’s growth into a flourishing and deeply rooted presence within the Church. Today, the Word continues to be proclaimed throughout Korea and internationally, including in the United States. Additionally, a structured system for online Bible study has been established, leading to a steady increase in the number of Bible study participants.
The CBLM is dedicated to the ongoing religious education of the Catholic faithful, the enrichment of liturgical life, the formation of servants of the Word, and the advancement of missionary work.
Ongoing Faith Formation
In the Catholic tradition, true believers are called to self-reflection and prayer, striving to lead lives aligned with their faith. To support this journey, the CBLM offers a program that encourages members to engage deeply with Scripture, affirm their beliefs, and integrate their faith into daily life.
Living the Liturgy
The Eucharistic celebration is at the heart of the Church’s ministry, inviting the faithful to fully participate in a life of devotion and spiritual growth. Through the liturgy, believers are nourished in faith and called to embody Christ’s love in their daily lives, fostering a deeper connection with God and a greater commitment to serving others.
Formation of the Servants of the Word and Mission
Those who embrace and live by the Word of God are called to serve their neighbors. Within the CBLM, participants who complete group study and the prescribed formation program are commissioned as Servants of the Word during the Holy Mass. Entrusted with the mission of evangelization, they proclaim the Good News and share God's love with those around them. The formation of Servants of the Word continues the legacy of Korea’s martyred ancestors, whose unwavering faith and sacrifice laid the foundation of the Catholic Church.
