In a Socialist system where foreigners are restricted from direct missionary work, we have adjusted our approach, focusing on the formation and training of native Vietnamese nuns with the support and prayers of our parishioners. Just as the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help began humbly in Sangsu-guri, Pyongyang, we are dedicated to nurturing candidates and applicants within this small yet growing community.
With each encounter, the sisters joyfully welcome and guide new candidates, hoping that the Vietnam branch for early formation will flourish with vitality and faith. We trust that Our Lady of Perpetual Help will bless this humble beginning, filling it with grace and hope. Though small as a seed, we pray that this mission will take root, grow steadily, and bear abundant fruit in the years to come.
Overseas Mission-Vietnam
Da Nang Kindergarten
Da Nang (Vietnamese: Đà Nẵng) holds a special place in Vietnam’s history as the first city where Catholicism was introduced. It is also home to two significant Marian pilgrimage sites: The Shrine of the Virgin Mary of La Vang and The Shrine of Our Lady of Trà Kiệu. However, due to the restrictions on foreign missionary work in Vietnam’s Socialist system, we have focused on training native Vietnamese nuns who, inspired by the spirituality and mission of our congregation, will help build the Kingdom of God. With hearts modeled after the Virgin Mary, they will dedicate themselves to the education and formation of children in this community.
In March 2024, we opened Dongsim Kindergarten Ngu Hanh Son in Ngu Hanh Son, Da Nang, Vietnam. Currently, the kindergarten operates two classes for children aged 18 months to 6 years. While overcoming linguistic and environmental challenges, we remain committed to nurturing Vietnamese children to become healthy, intelligent, and bright individuals. We eagerly await the day when local Vietnamese nuns will proclaim the gospel through their apostolic ministry, continuing the mission of faith and education.
